Today we had 600 students spell out EVV on our football field. It was our Purple Hands Rally today where students wore purple and committed to not using their hands or words to hurt others. #BeKind !

Middle school is such an influential age where students are learning more about themselves noticing how they learn as well as how they fit socially. It is important to help them learn what makes them an individual, find a way for them to belong and to build their confidence as well as help them have academic success. This is tough work!

Why did I chose Middle School? I truly believe this is the most critical time in a child's development. This is the age we still have a chance to change bad habits and provide them guidance on how to develop relationships as well as learn. Middle school curriculum is complex. We have to design a curriculum that “understands” the needs of students ages 10 to 14. It is essential to focus on both academic and exploratory. The exploratory experiences they receive by being exposed to real life experiences are where they start to maybe make that career connection, but it is essential that we help them meet high levels in literacy and numeracy. Doing these both well, while balancing their needs, will allow them to be successful at whatever they decide to do.

It is hard work, but if this hard work makes a difference in the life of a child…. There is no better work that I could have done. Yes, I wear a cowboy hat and a tuxedo on the first day of school every year! It brings a lot of smiles.
